Freight Moving Away From Air Freight to Sea Freight

The trade lanes linking Europe with Asia and the US will see a steady movement of freight from air to sea freight, according to a recent survey by investment firm Stifel, Nicolaus and research firm Transport Intelligence. The November survey of 300 international users of freight services said that 81 per cent said that a trend was emerging where goods that were moved by air earlier are now moving to sea freight.

The findings corroborate recent figures. There has been an erratic flow in air freight volumes: European air imports from Asia fell 6.3 per cent from October levels and imports from the United States went down 5.5 per cent over that same period.
