Heavy weather conditions still causing major delays to vessels out of East China ports

Tuesday, May 8, 2018

Since April, major weather conditions with heavy winds and dense fog have caused disruptions to port operations and vessel services in Eastern China. The impact has been so severe that current sea freight shipping schedules are still not back to normal. Delays vary between 1.5 – 3 days for vessels from Shanghai, Ningbo and Qingdao to Australia as ports are trying to clear the congestion and the backlog.

Shanghai – Port operations at Wai Gao Qiao and Yangshan are being delayed by at least 3 days and 1.5 days respectively, with delayed opening hours for container yards.

Ningbo – Current waiting time for vessel is estimated at 3 days.

Qingdao – Port operations are back to normal, but the current cargo backlog is expected to take 2 days to clear.
